Ebook Accessibility
Last manual evaluation: December 2025
It is the goal of Amherst College Press that every title we publish follows WCAG AA and EPUB Accessibility compliance standards.
Frontlist EPUBs conform to WCAG 2.1 AA and EPUB Accessibility 1.1. EPUBs published prior to 2024 may conform to older versions of WCAG AA and EPUB Accessibility and for some titles conformance to accessibility requirements varies. Title-level accessibility information is provided on the Fulcrum platform.
The EPUB format is available for online reading and download through the Fulcrum Reader. The PDF format is made available for download-only. PDF formats have varying levels of accessibility conformance, most notably PDF formats may not contain textual descriptions of images but do have baseline accessibility features and will work with assistive technology. All titles we publish are open access, can be freely downloaded, and do not contain DRM restrictions.
Published content is evaluated using a combination of automated tools and manual processes, primarily Ace by DAISY (EPUB), Ace SMART by DAISY (EPUB), PAC Accessibility Checker (PDF), and Adobe Acrobat (PDF).
